Ta-da! My first natural "mordant dyeing" experience. This is what I got when using alum and madder root. I'm pretty happy with the results. I am, however, going to buy an aluminum pot to use instead of alum, and try buying more substantive dyes (natural dyes that do not need mordants). I couldn't find a comprehensive list of substantive dyes, but here is the list I have developed so far.
Natural Substantive Dyes:
acorns
annatto seeds
cochineal
lichens
molluscs
oak galls
onion skins
safflower
sumac
tea
tumeric
walnut hulls
The fiber pictured to the right is for my own stash, to make Knittydirtygirl yarns. But below are the batts and yarn I made for my first ever blog give away! *Drum Roll Please*
